Baltimore, MD 21202

When it comes to pizza, it’s best to simply try it all. The slices at Joe Benny’s are probably a bit different than what you’re used to, as they’re built on Focaccia. Basically, this means that the crust is a lot thicker and doughy, similar to what you might find on a Sicilian-style slice.

While it might not be so typical in the pizza world, your first trip here will have you wondering how you went so long without Joe Benny’s in your life.

There IS an Eastern Shore tacked onto Maryland, which most people from the Western Shore never seem to realize except in summer. Have you ever eaten at The Shark on the Harbor in West Ocean City? It should be on this list!

  2. Megan

whoever did this was obviously afraid of going over the bay bridge.

  3. Millie Marcus Carter

Matthews 1600 – 1600 Fredrick Road Catonsville MD 21228 – Needs to be added to list most definitely!! Catonsville’s well kept secret One of the WORLD’S Best Chef, young Justin Martinez, runs the kitchen putting LOVE into every dish he creates, the wait staff is super friendly & very attentive, which just adds warmth to the welcoming atmosphere which the locals would like to keep to themselves … sorry Catonsville but the secret is out!!

  4. Amy Kreiner

Jules in ocean city is a sure hit! Local owner/chef too!

So much culture throughout the state, it’s a shame this mostly focused upon Baltimore. Eastern Shore and Southern MD have amazing access to the Chesapeake Bay and hence, great seafood and other good pickings … added to an environment that can’t be beat. Ellicott City slightly to the west of Baltimore and another cute town along the water completely overlooked. Western Maryland has its own mountainous charms with Deep Creek Lake and great spots accessible by boat, if that’s your thing. Another advantage in the west is its easy access to Harper’s Ferry, so patio views are magnificent.

Now that I’ve finished my epistle, I’d urge including Timbuktu … a shack on Route 175 heading towards Baltimore from the Crofton region where they serve some amazing King crabs. In west Annapolis, Cantler’s fits the bill in a hidden nook along the water … peaceful and casual eating Maryland style. Town of Kent Narrow’s and other spots along the shore build the bridge to yet another Maryland culture altogether.
