Northern and Southern California Home Price Comparison

Movoto released its California home inventory report recently. The Movoto report, drawn from seven different local California multiple listing services, shows that Northern California homes are generally selling more quickly than homes in Southern California. Four Northern California counties show more than 40% of their for sale home inventory on the market for less than 30 days. In contrast, Southern California homes are taking longer to sell with no counties breaking 25% of homes on the market for 30 days or less.

Believe it or not, Movoto’s statistics show you can still buy an average home for less than $200,000 in the Southern California city of Barstow. For the most part, home prices are over $300,000 across the 12 counties that Movoto covers. Only 15 of the 686 Zip Codes covered by Movoto have an average asking price less than $300,000.

For the home buyer with more than $4,000,000 to spend, there are plenty of choices around California, with Atherton in San Mateo holding the top spot for most expensive homes listed.

You may want to search for market statistics/neighborhood/crime/school information at the real estate search site movoto.com.

  1. Interesting article! Movoto will be a site to watch. Their demographic and community reports are phenomenal–and their business model seems solid.
