It’s actually the fourth most populous state in the U.S. and despite it being a great place to live, crime-wise Florida is among the most dangerous states in the country. The larger cities are always more dangerous than the smaller ones, so if you’re looking for the safest places to live in Florida where should you go? Here’s the top 10 safest cities in Florida:
As you might guess from the name, Islandia is on island located right at the northern end of the Florida Keys. It had city status until 2012 but is now an unincorporated place home to around 18 people, most of whom are National Park Service employees. Anyway, Islandia is the safest city in Florida and has a Crime Index of 100. 100 is the highest number of the crime index goes to and denotes the safest, while 0 would be the most dangerous.
The little town of Placida is set right on the Floridian coast, a short way north of Fort Myers, in Charlotte County, and has a population around 2,164 people. Placida is the second safest city in Florida and has a Crime Index of 97.
Around 536 people live in the town of Altha. It’s in Calhoun County, in the panhandle, and is the third safest place in Florida to live, with a Crime Index of 97. Altha is one of only a small number of schools in the state to house students Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12.
4. Boca Grande, Florida
Boca Grande is a scenic residential community on Gasparilla Island, in the southwest of Florida. Boca Grande has a beautiful little downtown and lovely beaches, and the Crime Index is a safe 97 so it’s the fourth safest place to live in Florida.
5. Indian River Shores
Set on Orchid Island in Indian River County, along the east coast of Florida, is the small town of Indian River Shores. About 3,500 people live here and the town is ranked ninth in the state by per capital income, so it’s an affluent place. Indian River Shores is the fifth safest town in Florida and has a Crime index of 95.
6. Westville, FL
Westville is a town in the northern panhandle of Florida, in Holmes County. It’s just a small town, with a population around 290 people and it is the sixth safest place to live in Florida, with a Crime Index of 95.
The city of Bristol is the county seat of Liberty County in the Florida panhandle. The Crime index is 95 so Bristol is the seventh safest city in Florida. Home to a little under 1,000 people, Bristol has two schools for children to attend from elementary to high school.
8. Highland Beach
The town of Highland Beach is just north of Boca Raton on the east coast of Florida, in Palm Beach County. Nearly 4,000 residents live in Highland Beach, enjoying the sandy beach that stretches for miles along the coast. It’s a safe place to live too – ranked eighth safest city in Florida, and has a Crime Index of 93.
9. Campbellton, Florida
Campbellton is a town in the Florida panhandle right in the north of the state, in the county of Jackson. It’s just a little town, with a population around 220 people and it’s the ninth safest place in Florida to live, with its Crime index of 90.
