California, home to 1 out of 8 Americans, is certainly a popular state to live in. It contains eight of the country’s 50 most populated cities, including Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco, which are all great cities to live in but not without their problems. You may not have heard of Trona, but then that’s not surprising – with a population of just 18 it’s a remote little town in Inyo County with just five households. Trona is the safest place in California with a Crime Index of 100 (100 being the safest possible). I guess when everyone knows your name crime is unlikely to happen!
Originally named Slippery Ford, Kyburz is in Eldorado County within the Eldorado National Forest. Home to just 133 people it is situated on U.S. Route 50, but, blink and you’ll miss it! Kyburz is the second safest city to live in California and its Crime Index is 100.
3. Point Mugu
You may have passed Mugu Rock on the Pacific Coast Highway but not realized there’s actually a little town here too. Home to 57 people who are mostly employed in the nearby Naval Air Station, Point Mugu is the third safest place to live in California with a Crime Index of 100.
Home to the grueling Markleeville Death Ride this small town and county seat of Alpine County has a population of 210 people. The Crime Index in Markleeville is 98, meaning this is a very safe place to live in California.
The fifth safest city in California is Valencia. This affluent, planned community is set within the City of Santa Clarita and has a population around 150,000 people. The Crime Index is a low 97 and Valencia is home to Six Flags Magic Mountain and Six Flags Hurricane Harbor.
Less than 500 people live in the small town of Coleville in Mono County, close to the Nevada state border, and on U.S. Route 395. It’s the sixth safest city to live in California with a Crime Index of 96.
7. Trabuco Canyon
Set in the foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains in eastern Orange County is the medium sized town of Trabuco Canyon. Around 16,000 people live in this safe community, ranked the seventh safest city in California, with its crime Index of 96.
Formally called Chambers Lodge, Tahoma has a population around 1,100 and is set right on the western shores of Lake Tahoe. As well as the great scenery Tahoma is the eighth safest place to live in California and has a Crime index of 96.
The little town of Cazadero has around 355 residents and is located in Sonoma County. This quaint town is the ninth safest place in California with a Crime Index of 96 and it features a post office, general store, two churches, a hardware store, and an auto repair garage.
10. Potter Valley
The tenth safest place in California is Potter Valley and it has a Crime Index of 96. Potter Valley is located in Mendocino County, just northeast of Lake Medocino and it’s home to around 644 people. The valley is rich in agriculture and grows many pears and wine grapes.
