You’ll only find about 60 people living in the tiny community of Tonopah, but it’s a very safe place to live! Ranked as the safest place to live in Arizona, Tonopah has a crime index of 100 – 100 being the safest – and you’ll find this community about 50 miles west of Phoenix, near the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station.
Today Tubac is known as an artists’ colony but it started life as a Spanish presidio in 1752. The remains of that presidio are an attraction of the town, which you’ll find in the south of the state, in Santa Cruz County. Tubac is the second safest place to live in Arizona, and has a crime index of 99.
Set in Yuma County, in the west of the state, is the town of Wellton. Around 1,900 people in Wellton year round, though the population soars during the winter as it’s a popular destination for snowbirds. Wellton is the third safest town in Arizona, and has a crime index of 97.
Amado is a census-designated place in Santa Cruz County, in the south of Arizona, about 40 miles from Tucson. Only around 300 people call Amado home, but it’s a safe place to live, ranking fourth safest in the state. The crime index is 92.
With a name like Carefree you’d expect this town in Maricopa County to have a good reputation for safety! Carefree is ranked the fifth safest town in Arizona, and has a crime index of 91. Around 3,800 people live in Carefree, and the town’s motto is ‘the best small town in Arizona’!
The northernmost town in Arizona is also its’ sixth safest. Fredonia has a crime index of 86 and it’s the gateway to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Only around 1,300 people live in this town in Coconino County.
Founded by Mormon pioneers and colonizers, Erastus Snow and William Flake, Snowflake has a population of around 5,500 people and is home to the Snowflake Arizona Temple. The town is in Navajo County, south of the Grand Canyon, and is the seventh safest town in Arizona. The crime index is 85.
The town of Florence is the largest town in our list so far. It has around 25,500 residents and is located in Pinal County in the south of the state, about 60 miles southeast of Phoenix. Home to the annual Country Thunder music festival and three state prisons, Florence has a crime index of 84 and is the eighth safest place to live in Arizona.

10. Sun City West
The final city to make the list of safest in Arizona is Sun City West. It’s also one of the largest of all the towns and cities featured, with around 25,000 residents, and it’s a relatively new town, constructed from the late 1970s. Sun City West is the tenth safest place to live in Arizona, and has a crime index of 83.
